The Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) is a regional inter-governmental partnership of the Nile riparian countries, namely Burundi, DR Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda; Eritrea participates as an observer. Launched on 22nd February 1999 by Ministers in charge of Water Affairs , the NBI provides riparian countries with the only all-inclusive regional platform

Official handover of the Hydromet Monitoring System today between Nile Basin Initiative and the Ministry of Water sanitation and Irrigation of the Republic of Kenya. After the fiel handover in Ogilo Two days ago AT Nyando River, the NBI Executive Director Dr. Florence Grace Adongo signed the official Handover documents with the Honorable Eric Murithi Mugaa Minister of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation.
Before the official ceremony NBI ED paid a courtesy call to the Hon Minister to share with him the achievments and challenges in the Nile countries and the benefits from the Transboundary cooperation specially in regard with Angololo project between Kenya and Uganda.

The 65th Nile-TAC meeting is currently going on in Munyonyo Speke Resort, Kampala. This governance meeting provide updates to TAC Members informations,, progress report, Annual Workplan, budget from NBI secretatiat. It allows TAC Members to assess and evaluate the level of progress and prepare the Nile COM meeting as well as formulate recommendations to move forward.

The 41th NEL-TAC meeting is opening now as part of the NBI governance meeting in Munyonyo Speke Resort, Kampala. The NELSAP Regional Coordinator as well as NBI Executive Director and the Nile TAC Chair emphasized on the resources mobilization issues and some innovative ideas such as Power portfolio to engage countries in the same synergy. NBI ED reminded, in this regard, Basin Investment Plan (BIP) is following its agenda with partners such as RECs (IGAD, LVBC, AUD-NEPAD) to bring new investissements onboard. The NEL-TAC meeting is officially opened by NILE TAC CHAIR.
