Coronavirus: US oil has dropped to below $0 dollars a barrel. Here's what it means

Even if demand were to return to pre-virus levels, it would take a long time to sell all the stored oil.

The price of crude oil has dropped to below $0 dollars a barrel, a record low.
It has been caused by a surplus in supply and a significant drop in demand, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It's not expected that consumers will see the scale of the drop reflected in prices at the gas pump.
The price of a barrel of benchmark U.S. oil plunged below $0 a barrel on Monday for the first time in history, a troubling sign of an unprecedented global energy glut as the coronavirus pandemic halts travel and curbs economic activity.
