Gallstones vs Inflamed Gallbladder (Cholecystitis) 🟢🩺
On the left: A gallbladder filled with gallstones. These stones form when bile components (cholesterol or bilirubin) harden. Many people may have gallstones without symptoms.
On the right: When a gallstone blocks the bile duct, it can cause inflammation and infection of the gallbladder, known as cholecystitis. The gallbladder becomes swollen, red, and painful.
Common symptoms include:
• Severe right upper abdominal pain
• Nausea and vomiting
• Fever
• Pain after eating fatty foods
If untreated, it can lead to infection, rupture, or serious complications.
💡 Simple way to remember:
Gallstones = Stones present
Cholecystitis = Stones causing inflammation and infection
