Area: 345 m²
Year: 2024

This structure is located at the gateway of a Sichuan, China, agricultural-themed residential community and is inspired by banyan trees.
The structure is a semi-open, multifunctional facility that accommodates music performances, theater, outdoor lessons, quiet reflection, and informal social gatherings.
Architectural Highlights:
A few skylights introduce natural light and provide a means for trees to grow through the roof.
Natural acoustics that are suitable for live performances.
Thin columns that are inspired by banyan aerial roots, inviting physical touch.
Integrated harmoniously with nature—the hill, lake views, and indigenous trees—without dominating the landscape.
Form & Structure:
Light and organic steel-wood dome, implying warmth and protection.
The domed roof is clad with crossing wooden beams on a 60-degree angle.
24 thin, chrome-plated steel columns (60–100 mm diameter) support the roof, creating an illusion of lightness and suspension.
Gravel-filled column bases allow natural drainage and integrate the building with the ground.

Apassionata Horse Theme Park
Location: Munich, Germany
Time: 2016–2017
Size: 5,000m² (GFA)
Client: APASSIONATA Park München GmbH & Co.KG
Photos; Stefan Müller-Naumann and EQUILA
After winning the first prize in the competition for the APASSIONATA Park in 2013 and about twelve months of construction, GRAFT implemented the first building, the APASSIONATA show palace in 2017. Located in the district of Fröttmaning, right next to the Allianz Arena in Munich, the project will create an interactive adventure for the visitors on the theme of horses with twelve additional pavilions.
The front of the show palace is constructed with a wooden façade, which is brought to life by an underlying light installation every evening. The overall shape of the façade abstracts the dynamic of free running horses and creates one more illusory show effect for the visitors. The show palace with its visually powerful theatre world is the centrepiece of the park and creates a symbiotic relationship between the architecture and the surrounding landscape, between nature and art world.

Green Ark
Greenhouse
•
Location: Meise, Belgium
Architects: NU architectuuratelier, archipelago
Area: 10280 m²
Year: 2024
Photographs:N/A
The large greenhouse in the Meise Botanical Garden is somewhat hidden and tucked away in a rolling area. The structure is surrounded by trees, behind the Pachthof and next to the service building, in the heart of the garden. The conservatory houses a precious and extensive live plant collection with species from climatic regions around the world.
The vault of the iconic pavilion midway between the conservatories has the shape of a hyperbolic paraboloid. It is twelve meters high and spread over two floors. On the second floor is the terrace with the pavilion’s roof in the center. This gives the visitor a beautiful view of the roof where preserved softwood was reused and transformed into wooden slats that cover the volume like a skin, almost like an animal.
