Sometimes the most powerful moments happen when you least expect them.

Days back, while on the road, we ran into one of the beneficiaries of The Hand Project, Mr. Deng Nyuot going about his day — confidently using his prosthetic hand. It was a quiet yet powerful reminder that what we do extends far beyond simply fitting a device.

Seeing him actively using his hand in his daily life was deeply moving. It spoke of his love for it, given dignity, and the beauty of second chances.

Moments like this remind us that every hand we fit is more than a prosthetic — it’s a step toward increased independence, confidence, and a life rebuilt.

A handshake may seem simple, but for many amputees, it represents dignity, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

Through the gift of a prosthetic hand, moments once thought lost are restored. The ability to connect, to greet with confidence, and to participate more in everyday life.

Every handshake is a reminder that empowerment begins with opportunity, compassion, and community support.

Together with The Hand Project, we are giving not just hands, but also Dignity.

Behind every prosthetic hand made is a dedicated team working side by side, measuring, moulding, adjusting, cutting, drilling, screwing, fitting, training, photographing, and perfecting every detail.

From start to finish, every step requires collaboration and teamwork.
Every hand involved plays a vital role in restoring another hand.

This is teamwork in Action

With hope in her heart and new confidence in her hand, Mama finds Joy in a simple act of sweeping.

Her prosthetic hand doesn’t just help her sweep. It restores independence, gives dignity, and joy in the little things that seem not to matter the most.

A handshake is more than a greeting.

It’s dignity, confidence, independence and a powerful reminder that ability is never lost.

On Wednesday, 4th February 2026, The First Step was honored to be hosted on Radio Miraya by Mr. Jacob Moyo on behalf of Betty Tidio to discuss the topic “Working Together.”

Meling Joy Samuel and Tony Salah proudly represented The First Step, sharing insights about The Hand Project —an initiative providing FREE Artificial Hands to upper limbs amputees in Juba, South Sudan among other Countries.

Last year (in 2025), 29 beneficiaries successfully benefited from the project and 31 hands were made, giving dignity, Hope and restoring some level of Confidence, independence and function.

This year, we aim to reach and serve even more people.

📢 We are calling on all upper limb amputees to register NOW for the upcoming FREE fitting camp. Let’s continue working together "Giving Dignity With Every Step" and transforming lives.

At first glance, some won't notice the artificial hand.
Others won’t notice it at all.

That’s the power of giving dignity, restoring function, and confidence.
This is what we do.

Yes, it is still VERY POSSIBLE!!
With an artificial hand and an unbreakable spirit, every stroke of the rake proves that ability is stronger than limitation.
This is what resilience looks like turning challenges into progress, one movement at a time.

Hammering 🔨 a nail into wood is all about possibility. With artificial hands, limits are being redefined and independence is built one nail at a time.
