Adut Salva Kiir Sponsors Treatment of Infant Survivor of Tonj East Attack

Senior Presidential Envoy on Special Programs, Adut Salva Kiir, has pledged to fully support the medical treatment and care of an infant who survived a deadly attack in Tonj East County that claimed the lives of his parents and two-year-old sister.

The baby suffered a gunshot wound to the head after suspected cattle raiders attacked a cattle camp during the night.

On Tuesday, Adut dispatched a team to visit the child in Juba and assured family members that she would personally cover all medical expenses and caregiving costs.

The infant was airlifted to Juba on Monday and is expected to be transferred to Nairobi for specialized treatment as he continues his recovery.

GOVERNOR RIEK G*I OPENS WORKSHOP ON HUMANITARIAN ACCESS AND CIVILIAN PROTECTION IN JONGLEI

The Governor of Jonglei State, Dr. Riek G*i Kok, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to working closely with humanitarian partners to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development across the state.

Speaking during the opening of a two-day Stakeholder Engagement Workshop on Humanitarian Access and Protection of Civilians in Bor on Tuesday, Governor Riek called on participants to develop practical solutions that will strengthen peace, unity, and cooperation among communities and humanitarian actors.

He also raised concerns over challenges affecting humanitarian operations, including disagreements on security measures and the enforcement of national laws, stressing the government's responsibility to prevent harmful substances such as illegal drugs from reaching communities.

The workshop brought together county commissioners, government officials, humanitarian organizations, and development partners to discuss ways of improving humanitarian access and protecting civilians in Jonglei State.

UNMISS Civil Affairs Representative, Khalifa Para, commended the state government for its cooperation with humanitarian agencies and reiterated UNMISS' commitment to supporting peacebuilding and development efforts in the state.
