Former National Security General Akech Tong Aleu Accuses Government Officials of Tribal Militarization

In a startling revelation that has sent shockwaves through political and military circles, former Director of South Sudan’s National Security Service – Internal Security Bureau, General Akech Tong Aleu, has come forward with grave accusations against senior government officials, implicating them in a deliberate campaign to militarize civilians along tribal lines and sabotage peace efforts in the country.

General Akech accused Hon. Chol Thon Balok and Gen. Paul Nang of supplying arms to civilians in Jonglei and Upper Nile, specifically favoring individuals from the Dinka community. According to him, the intention is not to promote local security, but rather to prepare ethnically aligned militias under the guise of self-defense, thereby threatening national cohesion and undermining the 2018 Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS).

“The ongoing war was initiated by the Government of South Sudan purposely to destroy the R-ARCSS period,” said Akech in a strongly-worded statement. “But they keep lying that it was the First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny. How can someone who is still part of your government initiate a war unless you are a coward working undercover?”

General Akech’s allegations go further. He claimed that the National Security Service, the very institution he once helped lead, is now dangerously imbalanced. “I can confess that National Security is 95% Dinka. How can we form an inclusive and effective force that represents all 64 tribes if only one tribe is deliberately allowed to dominate it?”

His remarks cast a harsh light on the structural inequalities that have long plagued South Sudan’s security apparatus. The principle of power-sharing, a cornerstone of the R-ARCSS, seems to be eroding under the weight of tribal favoritism and political manipulation. Akech emphasized

The South Sudan government has accused the U.S. of trying to deport a DRC national to Juba, an incident that sparked the revocation of all visas held by South Sudanese passport holders.

Juba, in a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, clarified that the deportee had an inauthentic South Sudan travel document.
