Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, issued a defiant message on Thursday saying that the U.S. had no place in the future of the Persian Gulf region and making clear that his country planned to manage the Strait of Hormuz going forward. In the rare statement, Khamenei also vowed that Iran would retain its nuclear capabilities.
