Michael Makuei Lueth has declined to consider a petition filed on behalf of Benjamin Bol Mel, citing “impolite” language and its premature circulation in the media.

In a 11 March 2026 response, Makuei acknowledged receiving the petition—submitted by lawyer Kiir Chol—but criticized its tone as “disrespectful, uncouth, and unacceptable.” He also faulted the legal team for sharing the document publicly on the same day it was filed, saying this removed the matter from the ministry’s purview.

Makuei said the case will not be considered unless the lawyers issue a written explanation and apology, including clarification on how the petition was leaked. It remains unclear whether the legal team will comply.
