Our colleague Charlotte, is currently in Paramaribo as part of a joint exploratory mission with IDB, AFD - Agence Française de Développement and SPLANG to explore opportunities for a potential submarine cable connectivity project under the Global Gateway Investment Agenda.

The vision? Extending the ELLALink Transatlantic digital corridor—the first direct high-capacity fibre optic link between Europe and Latin America—to the Caribbean, bringing high-speed, reliable and sovereign connectivity to the region. Such an investment could unlock new opportunities for research, innovation, business and regional integration.

This joint mission marks an important step in identifying opportunities to enhance Suriname's digital infrastructure and expand access to reliable, high-speed connectivity.

The EU is excited to be part of this collaborative effort to explore investments that can help strengthen Suriname’s digital future.
