Through support from Commonwealth Foundation, Humanist Watch Salone(HUWASAL) has in November, 2025 facilitated community outreach sessions in five communities in Kenema district on climate change, its interconnection to human rights, social justice and livelihood growth. The engagement created frank conversations platform with community members to understand climate change and it effects that related to human rights, social justice and community livelihoods and as well provided insightful need to developed community-led solution actions that foster community mitigation and adaptation to climate change. A total of 750 community residents were in attendance of which 337 were women. The conversation was gender focused that ensured gender inclusivity and priorities in the developed community action plan.

The 16th and 17th, September 2025 marked the launch of the Commonwealth Foundation funded project in Kenema and Kailahun Districts “Building community resilience, Safeguarding Biodiversity and a Healthy Ecosystem in Eastern Sierra Leone”. The event brought together project stakeholders including CSOs, Local Council and other relevant state actors. The activity served as stakeholders’ project orientation and implementation planning thus stimulate collectiveness in project decision-making to ensure stakeholders ownership drive throughout project life. Participants expressed collective support in achieving the desired results as the issue of climate change universally affects community social wellbeing with devastating effects on livelihood security and growth. The unwavering support expressed by participants, indicates project relevance to addressing climate change through community -led solutions. Project implementation is in partnership with Movement for Resettlement and Rural Development (MoRRD)
