The Government of Sierra Leone and the United States signed a historic five-year Memorandum of Understanding on Health Cooperation, valued at USD 129 million, on December 22, 2025, making Sierra Leone one of the first African beneficiaries of this new U.S. approach to global health partnerships. The agreement, running from 2026 to 2030, aims to strengthen healthcare systems and combat infectious diseases by focusing on reducing deaths from HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, and measles; lowering maternal and child mortality; achieving near-universal HIV testing and treatment; and enhancing rapid outbreak detection and response. Signed by Sierra Leone’s Health Minister Dr. Austin Demby and U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Rabia M. Qureshi, the partnership emphasizes alignment with national priorities, increased domestic investment, health security, and accountability through a joint steering committee.
