Council of HeForShe Ambassadors Sierra Leone (COHA-S.L) is a non-political, not-for profit youth
focused organization that is led by young people from different backgrounds with wealth of experiences,
knowledge and immense dynamism, to advocate the participation and inclusion of women in decision
making processes in order to achieve gender parity. It’s an organization aimed at addressing the
inequality
that exist between male and female, especially in accessing social services and showcasing their God given
talents. It’s the initiative of five young guys in Bo, Southern Sierra Leone, who are saddened with the gender
gap and structural violence predominant in our society, and want to support the aspirations of women in
education, leadership, health, entrepreneurship and service delivery. Haven worked with different
organizations, and have seen the gender discrimination entrenched in organizational structures, they came up
with a plan of action that gave birth to Council of HeForShe Ambassadors Sierra Leone (COHA-S.L). Its
motive is to collaborate and complement the efforts of UN Women, the originator of HeForShe and other
gender focused organizations in their global movement in ensuring that gender parity is achieved, and that
women are empowered at all levels of society to guarantee equal representation in all aspect of societal
dealings. The gender gap and disparity between male and female has for a very long time continues to give
opportunities to male as against the female in gaining access to employment, education, leadership, social
services etc. The existing socio-cultural barriers and patriarchal traditional model through which the country
is been structured have over the years subjected the roles of women to household chores, and finds it
difficult to empower themselves or be self-reliant in achieving a status of recognition within society. This organization envision an empowered and inclusive society where women equally lead development
processes and take up leadership roles in their communities and actively increase their voices as well as
improve access to educational opportunities for other women and girls. Therefore, we at COHA-SL have
agreed on the following
