Real opportunities to improve productivity are often hidden in various, even smallest work details. One of our clients that monitors personnel at a construction site using SmartTeam system really has an eye for these little things:
1. Controls workers’ presence at the site
2. Tracks time spent in a working zone
3. Detects activity and inactivity during the working hours

All this data can show how a person works, assess productivity, and find out how to improve it.
For instance, in April 13th report we see that one of the light current systems technicians was at the site all day long, but spent 4 hours in the rest area (while for other workers in his team this figure would be 1.5 hours at the max). Seems like we have spotted some idle time, and that’s where we should take some disciplinary action, isn’t it?
Nonetheless, SmartTeam shows that wireman’s activity was 95% this day, one of the top rates on the site — and that would have been impossible had he really been skiving off half a day.

The answer is simple: the thing is that the wireman was working on an electrical box in a rest area. So our protagonist deserves a pay raise, not a penalty. While there might be some questions to his colleagues having 1.5 hour lunch breaks😊

Daily losses of 30 minutes per person might turn into missed deadlines and significant expenses for a company. To detect most of violations it’s crucial to use a correct set of criteria to monitor – often it’s not enough to just track working time or personnel movements. Pick the right indicators and SmartTeam will help you measure and assess work productivity.

Measure To Improve

is key for any construction project. With one third of the time at spent on rearrangements, downtimes, the search for materials, and 90% of mega projects delayed or over budget, it’s the human factor that can make difference.

But there’s a certain problem that might be holding back most of the efforts to improve workers’ productivity. To make it grow you first need to measure it, which is not that easy at the construction site, where workers:

• move around a lot
• mostly perform manual labor tasks
• work in teams

make measuring and assessing individual productivity possible via location and activity monitoring. In SmartTeam case, equipping workers with or and connecting them to an AI-module allows to control various aspects of employees’ or contractors’ work, including:

• presence in the working zone
• workload
• tasks completion
• worktime efficiency

Having objective data of this kind might open many opportunities to improve labor productivity. A construction company we work with used it to assess workers’ idle time and adjust bonus payments accordingly, which helped them boast a 14% productivity growth the very next month.
