As the InVest Accelerator journey comes to an end, we want to say a big thank you to the entire team that helped Pedale grow from an idea into a real start-up. 💕
This program gave us structure, confidence, and so much insightful knowledge and proof that the right people around you can transform a concept into something real and impactful.

We’re soon stepping into 2026 with excitement:

Hello, bike friends! 🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️

We’re really excited to see our cycling community growing organically, and we thought it was the perfect time to share some updates with you.

Right now, we’re working on both the website and the app. According to our schedule, an alpha version will be ready for testing at the beginning of October. This first round of testing will be open to everyone who kindly answered our Q&A (link in bio).

Here’s what you can expect from the app as it develops:

Stage 1 – Core features
Route planning: A → B routes with filters for safety and speed. You’ll see which parts of the route include bike lanes (or don’t), since we all know connectivity is still a big issue.
Ride tracking: Generates heatmaps to improve route suggestions over time and help identify high-traffic areas that could influence future infrastructure planning.
Report system: The ability to report cycling-related issues directly in the app. These reports will be passed along to authorities, showing that an active cycling community means cycling infrastructure should be a priority.

Stage 2 – Community features
Community tab: A space where cycling groups and bike-friendly businesses can share events.
Rewards system: Join challenges and earn rewards when you complete them.

Stage 3 – Security features
Bike registration & theft support: Register your bike in-app to help recover it more easily in case of theft, and contribute to a safer cycling community.

Our long-term goals:
To build a user-friendly app that connects cyclists, communities, and authorities.
To develop and share cyclotourism routes from the area.
To expand into other cities and support their cycling culture.
To actively contribute to the future development of cycling infrastructure.

At the moment, the design is handled by Alexandrina Ciortuz, while all the heavy-lifting on the development side is done by Sebastian D. Balaj.

Excited to share that “Pedale”, the urban cycling project I’ve been working on, has been selected as a finalist in inVest, Romania’s first Urban Mobility Accelerator!

As an architect and everyday cyclist, I’ve seen just how much we still need to do to make cities safer and more connected for bikes. Over the years, I’ve worked on public space and mobility projects across the region, from redesigning pedestrian and cycling areas in Reșița to coordinating Ecluze pe Bega, a cross-border initiative reconnecting Romania and Serbia through river navigation while protecting the local ecosystem.

Pedale grew from a personal need to step outside the professional bubble and explore how collaboration, curiosity, and better data can make cycling feel safer, smarter, and more accessible.

We’re now building the Pedale app, a data-driven tool for mapping safer routes, collecting community input, and helping local governments make cyclist-focused decisions.

Big thanks to Iceberg Plus, Cowork Timisoara and EIT Urban Mobility for creating space for ideas like this to grow 🚴🏻‍♀️
