Mastering Slope Calculation
The image demonstrates the relationship between vertical height difference (\Delta H) and horizontal distance (L) to determine the percentage of a slope.
Key Components Explained:
Elevation A: The starting ground point (32.000 m).
Backsight (BS): The rod reading at the known point (2.105 m).
Instrument Height (I.H.): Calculated as {Elevation A} + {Backsight} = 34.105{ m}.
Foresight (FS): The rod reading at the new point (0.607 m).
Elevation B: Calculated as {I.H.} - {Foresight} = 33.498 { m}.
Height Difference (Delta H): The rise between points A and B (1.498 m).
The Formula:
To find the slope (S), we use the ratio of the height difference over the horizontal distance, multiplied by 100:
With a distance of 98.90 m and a height change of 1.498 m, the resulting slope is 1.514%.
