The beauty is the horse eye diamond in your life. The “Marquise”pronounced as “mahr keez”, this elegant and elongated diamond features curved side edges and pointed ends. The name originated in France during the 1740s, allegedly inspired by Madame de Pompadour, the mistress of King Louis XV of France, due to its resemblance to her lips. The Marquise diamond is also known as “navette” (meaning “little boat” in Old French). Its shape resembles the hull of a racing boat, reflecting the maritime passion of King Edward VII of Britain and his contemporaries in the early 20th century during the Edwardian era. The Marquise diamond was also very popular in the 1970s, especially as bridal jewelry, but it gradually fell out of favor at the beginning of the 21st century, replaced by square princess cut diamonds.
Marquise diamond is also called the olive shaped diamond and is known as the “Queen of Diamond Shapes” in modern diamond cutting. The narrow cutting lines at both ends gather the light of the diamond, and this cutting method can make the diamond’s carat weight reach the best, with a visual effect greater than the actual weight.

Marquise diamond, due to its slender and exquisite shape, can make the fingers appear more slender. They are considered an irregular diamond, and to select a beautiful Marquise diamond, one needs to carefully understand its components.
