Taxpayers'' facilitation issues discussed

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar Saturday chaired a meeting at the Finance Division to discuss various issues related to taxpayers'' facilitation. The meeting deliberated upon various problems faced by taxpayers in filing their returns and the role of the FBR in facilitating the taxpayers. The recommendations submitted in the interim report by the Tax Reforms Commission were considered in detail with a view to simplifying the processes for taxpayers. The participants also discussed measures for improving the functioning and performance of the FBR.
The Finance Minister also directed to constitute a committee to oversee and expedite the ongoing reforms in the FBR and to further improve taxpayers'' facilitation and broadening of the tax base. The participants also discussed the framework for monitoring the reforms on an ongoing basis. The reform process will be carried out in a phased manner with resolution of important issues on priority basis. International best practices will also be considered for seeking guidance and improving the indigenous system.
Dar said it is the objective of our government to improve the overall existing system of tax collection and to optimise tax revenues with least hassle to taxpayers. The system must also ensure transparency and efficiency in its operations. Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Revenue Haroon Akhtar also attended the meeting along with Masood Naqvi, Chairman TRC, Ashfaq Tola and Abid Shaban, members TRC and senior officials of the Ministry of Finance.
