The Failure Assessment Diagram (FAD) is recommended for prediction of remaining life and failure of structures and materials with flaws, in BS 7910 and API 579 FFS. These two standards recommend finite element analysis of the behaviour of complex cases. This video gives a detailed methodology for assessment of crack like defects for safety critical structures.

MatStress Engineering has been analyzing the feasibility of Acoustic Emission (AE) sensors for detection of corrosion, cracking and fracture in the structures, for last one year or so. We have completed our lab based testing and now ready to provide this state of the art technique to serve the industry of Pakistan.
AE is a technique in which a sensor detects any change in the material’s energy by showing acoustic waves in the system. The method is extremely useful when a crack initiates or any plastic deformation occurs due to aging, temperature gradients, external mechanical forces or corrosion.
