The Government of Pakistan purchased a firewall system from China to control and regulate social media. Around 40 billion rupees were reportedly spent to implement this system in the country.
However, after its implementation, many internet issues started appearing. There were problems like slow internet speed, connectivity issues, VPN disruptions, and service interruptions. Because of this, the IT industry suffered heavily. Freelancers faced project delays, software houses struggled with international clients, and many companies experienced financial losses.
Now, if the government has shut down this system, some important questions arise in the minds of the public:
Was proper technical and financial research conducted before approving this project?
Were IT industry experts and stakeholders consulted before implementing it?
Why did a project costing nearly 40 billion rupees fail to deliver results?
Who is responsible for the financial losses faced by the IT industry?
Will there be any transparent audit or public report about how this money was spent?
In the digital age, strong and stable internet infrastructure is essential for economic growth. When policies are made without proper planning and expert consultation, the entire nation pays the price.
The public is not just criticizing — they are asking for accountability and transparency.
Forty billion rupees was public money, and the public deserves answers.
