Men as Allies in Menstrual Health

With the support of Mahwari Justice and their well-designed menstrual health manuals, an impactful awareness session was conducted at Dapa Primary School where male teachers played a crucial role in fostering understanding, dignity, and care around menstrual health. This collaboration highlighted how informed support can create safe and respectful learning environments for girls.

In a context where limited information often leads to confusion, teachers chose empathy over silence. Simple yet thoughtful practices aimed at girls’ comfort and well-being were already part of the school culture, reflecting care rather than extremism.

Teachers shared that this initiative addressed a dire need in the area and committed to using this training to continue awareness for students in the future.

Awareness is not gendered. Support makes the difference.

Our volunteers continue to turn awareness into meaningful action.
Masooma conducted a comprehensive RTI and menstrual health session in her village Malong, engaging students at the local madrassa and supporting menstruating members with dignity kits.

This effort not only spreads essential knowledge but also strengthens community confidence in youth-led initiatives. Each session is a step toward breaking stigma, promoting informed choices, and ensuring access to basic rights.

As we observe the 16 Days of Activism, we reaffirm our commitment to creating informed, empowered, and safer communities for all.

Professional Guidance, Community Impact: MHM Session Overview 🌸

The Gilgit Baltistan Right to Information Initiative, with support from the Micro Grant for Women’s Organizations (MG4WO) under the BEST4WEER initiative of Aga Khan Rural Support Programmme (AKRSP), Pakistan, conducted a focused Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) awareness session in Dapa Katisho.

With the participation of five medical professionals, the session created a safe and open space for discussion, practical guidance, and one-on-one mentoring. The experts addressed common myths, encouraged questions, and shared essential knowledge to help young learners understand menstrual health with confidence.

During the session, Dr. Saira Shigri appreciated the initiative and shared a thoughtful reminder:

“This session is a meaningful start, but it also shows how much more work is needed to ensure informed and supportive spaces for girls and women.”

And for us, this is not just a project; it is a commitment. With every expert we engage, every community we reach, and every conversation we open, we move one step closer to a future where menstrual health is understood, respected, and supported. Our journey continues with purpose and passion.

Health Awareness through Interactive Learning 🌸

Dr. Saira Shigri led an interactive menstrual health awareness session organized by the Gilgit Baltistan Right to Information Initiative at Dapa Katisho School.

During the session, students participated in one-on-one mentoring and Q&A discussions with Dr. Saira, openly sharing their questions and experiences. The session focused on understanding menstruation as a natural biological process, addressing common challenges, and promoting safe hygiene practices.

This interactive approach created a comfortable and supportive space for students to learn, ask questions, and correct misconceptions in a respectful environment. By encouraging open dialogue, the session aimed to help young learners build knowledge, confidence, and a positive attitude toward menstrual health, an essential step in fostering awareness and well-being among the youth of Dapa Katisho.
