SCENT DISCRIMINATION is the dog's unique ability (because of their fantastic and unique olfactory system) to locate a trained odor in an area laden with hundreds or thousands of other "scents".

For example, when a canine is searching vehicles for trained odors at a vehicle check point it will come into contact with hundreds of "scents" such as exhaust fumes, perfume, cigarette smoke, oil perspiration, diapers and food. The dog will be able to discriminate between all of the various "scents" to find the trained odor of explosives that are hidden at the door seams of a particular vehicle.

In this level of our training, we can see how Ego mastered his Scent Discrimination ability by successfully locating the trained odor/training aid used while disregarding all the other scents in the area, specifically, detergent powder, black pepper, brewed coffee, vinegar, dried fish, ground pork, meat, and balot. Which is very impressive because in actual operations, there are a lot of cases wherein the dog usually tends to sit upon smelling scents like food, detergents, perfumes, and etc.

We can see that as time goes by, the difficulty of Ego’s trainings accelerates but Ego always pulls it off through hardwork, drive, and of course, the skills and patience of his trainor. 😎
