DepEd Nueva Ecija

First Learning Continuity Space Opens in SDO Nueva Ecija, Advancing PBBM and Secretary Angara’s Basic Education Reform Agenda
JAEN, NUEVA ECIJA – Reinforcing its commitment to the Basic Education Reform Agenda of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. (PBBM) and Department of Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara, the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Nueva Ecija officially opened the first Learning Continuity Space (LCS) at San Jose Elementary School, Jaen.
The facility is the first among the nine (9) Learning Continuity Spaces awarded to the Schools Division of Nueva Ecija to be completed and placed into operation, marking a significant step in the Department’s continuing efforts to address classroom shortages and ensure uninterrupted learning.
The Learning Continuity Space Project is a flagship infrastructure intervention of the Department of Education that provides schools with safe, resilient, and learner-centered classrooms while permanent school buildings are being developed. The initiative supports the national government’s goal of expanding equitable access to quality basic education through innovative and sustainable infrastructure solutions.
Prior to its turnover for learner use, Schools Division Superintendent Ronaldo A. Pozon, PhD, CESO V, personally led the inspection of the completed facility to ensure full compliance with DepEd’s engineering, safety, and quality standards.
Joining the inspection were Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Michelle A. Mejica, EdD, CESO VI, Chairperson of the Bids and Awards Committee (BAC); Rowena T. Castillo, Chief of the Schools Governance and Operations Division (SGOD); and Engr. Ener Fuertes, Division Engineer. The inspection team carefully assessed the structural integrity, workmanship, compliance with approved specifications, and overall readiness of the facility before its official use by learners.
One of the highlights of the project was the voluntary provision of additional enhancements by the winning contractor, demonstrating its commitment to delivering infrastructure that exceeds the minimum project requirements. These value-added improvements included the installation of ceramic floor and wall tiles in the comfort room, steel doors for enhanced safety and durability, and two (2) rainwater catchers to promote water conservation and environmental sustainability within the school. These enhancements were completed without additional cost to the government, reflecting the contractor’s partnership with DepEd in providing quality learning facilities for Filipino learners.
Dr. Pozon commended the initiative, emphasizing that quality infrastructure is essential to achieving meaningful educational reforms.
“The Learning Continuity Space Project is a concrete manifestation of the education reform agenda of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Secretary Sonny Angara. Beyond addressing classroom shortages, this project demonstrates how collaboration between government and responsible private partners can provide better, safer, and more sustainable learning environments for our learners,” Dr. Pozon said.
ASDS Mejica highlighted the importance of maintaining transparency, accountability, and strict compliance with procurement and implementation standards throughout the project. Meanwhile, SGOD Chief Castillo noted that improved school facilities directly contribute to learner welfare, while Engr. Fuertes affirmed that the completed structure, including the additional enhancements, complies with DepEd’s engineering and construction standards.
