In the deserts of southern Africa, the Namaqua Warbler employs one of the most remarkable strategies in the animal kingdom. The male soaks his breast feathers in distant puddles, where special fibers absorb water like a natural sponge. He then flies for miles to the nest, allowing his chicks to drink directly from his breast.
