DESIGN OF TIMBER PURLIN
A roof purlin is a beam that connects trusses and transfers roof loads to the trusses. Purlins are frequently positioned on or framed into the truss in such a way that one of the principal axes of the purlin is parallel to the roof slope for ease of framing. As a result of this configuration, the vertical roof load is not parallel to either of the purlin's two principal axes.

Riprap is a permanent, erosion-resistant ground cover of large, loose, angular stone. The purpose of riprap is to protect slopes, streambanks, channels, or areas subject to erosion by wave action. Rock riprap protects soil from erosion due to concentrated runoff. It is used to stabilize slopes that are unstable due to seepage. It is also used to slow the velocity of concentrated runoff which in turn increases the potential for infiltration.

Ground slabs are those slabs that are poured directly into excavated trenches in the ground. They rely entirely on the existing ground for support. The ground (more correctly known in the industry as the foundation) must be strong enough to support the concrete slab.

To estimate the board feet from a log, measure the average diameter of the smaller part of the log in inches. Then, measure the length of the log in feet. Move the scale's marker over to where these two measurements meet. Where the two measurements intersect is the approximate board foot output. If there are any defects, you can reduce the number based on how significant that flaws are, such as rot or curvatures.
