ETA at 68: A STRONG CIRCLE SURMOUNTING CHALLENGES
68 years ago, Eliseo ‘Dad’ Clamor organized the first Alpha Phi Omega chapter in Quezon City, and the first in the whole University of the Philippines System. A year later, UP Diliman was designated as the Eta Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega in the Philippines.
The Eta Chapter exemplifies the ideals and principles of the Fraternity, and endeavors to uphold the standards of excellence. In a tradition unbroken for almost seven decades, brothers of the Eta Chapter continue to take leadership roles, form friendships, and serve the University, various communities, and the country.
Over the years, brothers have thrived in their various professions and vocations, showing the mark of Etan excellence in the arts, across all industries, in the service sector, in public service, and most importantly, in providing organized services to communities across the country. This is notwithstanding, and often even inspired by, the challenges we have time and time again faced as a nation--social unrest, calamities, and other unexpected adversities.
The past year, marked by a volcanic eruption, a pandemic, and damaging typhoons has been no different. Brothers have risen to the occasion, providing aid to our fellow Filipinos in the Southern Tagalog region, our health workers who faced shortages in protection and nourishment in the first months of the pandemic, and communities affected by the typhoons in the late year.
As we weather the coming stages of the pandemic and the challenges ahead, we take stock in the strong circle that has been forged through friendship and struggle, and build upon the past toward a new tomorrow.
