MANILA – The Climate Change Commission (CCC) underscored the critical role of youth leaders, advocates, and academic institutions in advancing climate action and sustainability during the Sustainergy: Climate Leadership and Sustainable Action Convention 2026.
In his message, CCC Vice Chairperson and Executive Director Robert E.A. Borje emphasized that the growing impacts of climate change call for stronger collaboration among government, civil society, the private sector, the academe, and local communities.
"Advancing climate action requires a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach, anchored on coordination, accountability, and sustained engagement across sectors," Borje said.
He likewise emphasized that translating climate policies into meaningful action requires broad participation and shared responsibility, with every sector contributing according to its respective mandate, expertise, and capacity.
The CCC also highlighted the importance of empowering young people and educational institutions as catalysts for climate action. By strengthening climate literacy and environmental leadership, schools and universities can help cultivate future leaders capable of driving sustainable development within their communities.
Borje encouraged participants to transform climate knowledge into concrete initiatives that respond to local realities and contribute to national climate goals.
"May this workshop equip you not only with knowledge, but also with the capacity to translate that knowledge into action. May it strengthen your role as leaders and advocates who will carry forward the country's climate agenda within your respective institutions and communities," he said.
The convention featured discussions on climate science, sustainability, environmental leadership, and community engagement, alongside workshops on climate action planning and institutional sustainability frameworks. Participants also developed climate action project proposals and personal sustainability pledges, reinforcing their commitment to advancing climate resilience and environmental stewardship in their respective schools, organizations, and communities.
The CCC continues to promote science-based, inclusive, and people-centered climate action by strengthening partnerships with civil society, the academe, the private sector, and local governments in pursuit of a climate-resilient, sustainable, and prosperous Philippines.
