FISH or FISHES
The plural of fish is usually fish.
When referring to "more than one species" of fish, especially in a scientific context, you can use FISHES as the plural.
Is it a school of fish or fishes?
“A school of FISH” is correct. Only fish of the same species gather together as a group or “school”. You may see other fish close by, but not in the same “school”.
