Members of the Ecology and Conservation Research Laboratory (Eco/Con Lab), Angelo R. Agduma and Krizler C. Tanalgo, are part of an ongoing Impact Assessment Project that evaluates the effectiveness of nationally funded research on mango export quality in the Philippines. The project is funded by DOST-PCAARRD and is led by Associate Professor Jennet M. Magaso, in collaboration with Professor Willie Jones B. Saliling and Associate Professor Yvonne Saliling.
During the Universityโs 45th Mid-Year RDE Review, Professor Agduma presented the projectโs progress and was awarded 2nd Best Paper for Basic Research Presentation. The project also received 1st Best Poster in Basic Research, presented by Professor Saliling and Associate Professor Saliling.
In his presentation, Professor Agduma highlighted the projectโs major milestones and shared key insights from several mango-related studies previously funded in the Philippines. He also pointed to important gaps in research implementation, underscoring the need to better connect research investments with measurable outcomes and long-term sectoral impact.
Although still in the middle of its implementation, the project has already generated substantial findings that can help clarify the impacts of previously funded initiatives. These early results are expected to inform future research directions and funding priorities in support of the countryโs mango industry.
Associate Professor Magaso, the project leader, emphasised that the assessment is already yielding evidence that can guide more strategic and effective support for mango research and development in the years ahead.
The project reflects the growing contribution of interdisciplinary research teams in generating evidence-based insights for national development, while also reaffirming Eco/Con Labโs engagement in broader applied research initiatives beyond biodiversity and conservation.
