On May 27, 2026, the Official page of the PNP Cateel Municipal Police Station posted a list of โ€œActive Wanted Personsโ€ identifying student leaders from UP Mindanao and youth activists from different organizations in Southern Mindanao Region. The said posts have now been deleted.

This spree of red-tagging and mislabeling the youth as โ€œwantedโ€ individuals heavily compromises their safety despite only practicing their right to voice out the ills amidst the ongoing national crisis brought by the Marcos - Duterte Administration.

This plight is no different from the scrutiny and attacks against campus journalists. In this time of crisis due to rising oil prices, the jeopardy brought by the recent senate ruckus, the ongoing delays in detaining warranted criminals, and holding corrupt officials accountable only strengthens the need for the community members to take their stance. As members of the press, it is vital to amplify the calls of the masses against corruption, state-sponsored attacks, and demanding accountability on issues that still persist to this day.

Criticism towards the government is not an attack, but a demand that needs to be addressed. When the masses and the media criticize, baselessly criminalizing them is not a solution.
