Dr. Crowley, Cavite’s blues rock afficionados, is making a headway to the music scene with the release of their debut album entitled “Rock and Roll Heart and Soul.” The band, which started out in 1998 began with its four original members: Mikerock Caceres on guitars, John Paul Naval on drums, Waku Saunar on bass and Mighty Odoño on vocals and harmonica. The then four piece group was playing cover
songs from different musical genres until they realized they’re getting much into blues and rock n roll format. For a long period of time, Dr. Crowley has been identified with the blues rock crowd and this was solidified when Gerrold Manianglung, a slide guitar enthusiast, joined the band in 2005. This was also validated when its latest addition, Otep Salvagon was officially designated as the band’s percussionist in 2008. From 4-piece to 6 piece, the blues and rock n roll has been given an exquisite flavour which is uniquely identifiable to Dr. Crowley. In 2010, Dr. Crowley continued to explore and improve their craft with yet another addition to the 6 piece band line up. They added a horn section – Glen Landas on Trumpet, Jun “Chengwa” Dimaranan on Trombone, and Rod Otiong on Saxophone plus the third axeman – guitarist Melvin Tabanan a long time friend of te Crowley boys. Dr. Crowley’s main influences are: Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, Jimmy Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton, The Doors, Aerosmith and other classic rock artists. Although identified with blues rock, Dr. Crowley’s music particularly their original compositions is not only confined to a specific musical form. If you closely listen to their songs, you’ll be surprised to hear how flexible they are in song writing and melody making. Stomp your feet to the beat of “Barangay Tagay” and “Basagulero”. Take a listen to the rock-a-billy style of “Arinola Blues”. Be inspired to the hard rockin’ “Bagyo”. Feel the rhythm and power of “Rock n Roll Heart and Soul”. Get a load of the blues on “Yosi Blues” and “Ngiti”. Get high on the gospel-like sound together with a choir of “Wind”; enjoy the shuffle of “Swallow my Pride” and “Sulutan”. Soothe your senses to the sweet melody of “Lambuchingan”, and be taken away to the castle of “My princess”. All songs were composed and originally done by Dr. Crowley under the tutelage of Gerry Diwa of Rebolusyon Records.
