Earthquake Preparedness: What to Do Before, During, and After an Earthquake
π Before an Earthquake

Prepare an Emergency Go Bag containing:
Drinking water
Ready-to-eat food
First aid kit
Flashlight and extra batteries
Whistle
Power bank
Important documents in a waterproof container
Face masks and personal medications

Secure heavy furniture, cabinets, and appliances.
β
Identify safe spots in your home, school, or workplace:
Under sturdy tables
Away from windows, mirrors, and hanging objects

Know evacuation routes and emergency contact numbers.
β
Practice earthquake drills regularly.
π¨ During an Earthquake
DUCK, COVER, and HOLD!
π¦ DUCK β Get down on your hands and knees.
π‘οΈ COVER β Take cover under a sturdy table or desk. Protect your head and neck.
β HOLD β Hold on to your shelter until the shaking stops.
If Indoors:
Stay inside.
Keep away from windows, glass, and shelves.
Do not use elevators.
If Outdoors:
Move to an open area away from buildings, trees, power lines, and streetlights.
If Driving:
Pull over to a safe location.
Stay inside the vehicle until the shaking stops.

Check yourself and others for injuries.

Be prepared for aftershocks.
β
Inspect your home for damage, gas leaks, or electrical hazards.

Listen to official announcements from local authorities.
β
Use phones only for emergencies.
β
If near coastal areas, move to higher ground if a tsunami warning is issued.
