Planning a trip to the public opening of the Ngauranga to Petone section of Te Ara Tupua on Saturday? This 4.5km section of the shared path will open for walking, running, and cycling.

Public transport makes it easier to get there, with bus stops and train stations at both ends of the path. But remember – there is limited space for bikes on Metlink buses, trains and ferries.

🚆Take the Hutt Valley Line from Wellington and hop off at Ngauranga Station, then use the underpass and walk three minutes north to the start of the path.

If taking the train from north of Petone, hop off at Petone Station and walk south for 10 minutes to Honiana Te Puni Reserve where the other end of the path begins.

🚌 From Wellington, catch bus 1, 52 or 83 and hop off on Hutt Road near Jarden Mile, stop 3262 for Route 1 & 52, and stop 3263 for Route 83.

In Lower Hutt, catch any bus that stops outside Bunnings on Hutt Road, stop 8001 or Petone Station, stop 9000.

🚲 Cycling – there are only three bike spaces available on each train service and two on buses.

⛴️ If you want to take the Wellington Harbour ferry with a bike, make sure you use their new booking system.

If planning to visit Te Ara Tupua on Sunday this weekend, please note buses will replace trains each evening from 7.30pm between Petone and Wellington on the Hutt Valley Line until Wednesday 20 May.

Use the Metlink journey planner or app to work out the best way to get there.
