So it's Budget Day 2026: "tighten your belt," they say. Mate, I've tightened it so much I can't breathe... which is handy because I can't afford the fuel to get to the fishing spot anyway.

Petrol hovering around "are-you-kidding-me" per litre means every trip now needs a cost-benefit analysis: how much is a recreational snapper worth when you include gas, bait, tackle and emotional damage.

We're not chasing fish anymore, we're amortising them: shorter trips, lighter tackle, sharing the costs. But quit fishing? Yeah right. Even in this economy, a bad day fishing still beats a good day checking the bank balance.

Budget's tight. Line's tighter.

How do you avoid this co$t of fishing crisis? Serious / not serious.
