When I was little, we didn’t always have enough money to buy birthday cakes.
Sometimes my birthdays were just another normal day, and I would quietly look at other children blowing candles and wonder what that felt like.
Back then, I thought happiness looked like pretty cakes, colourful frosting, and having enough.
Now I’ve grown up and become a baker.
I can make almost any cake I dream of.
Tall cakes, luxury cakes, flowers, butterflies, designs people save on Pinterest.
But strangely…
the happiness I thought would come with it never really arrived the way I imagined when I was a child.
Maybe because when we are little, happiness is so simple.
A single candle.
Someone singing for you.
Feeling loved.
And maybe that’s why I care so much about every cake I make now.
Because for someone, it’s not “just a cake.”
It’s the childhood memory they will remember forever. 🤍

Late one night, we received an online order from an elderly man for his wife’s birthday cake.
He requested soft pink flowers and butterflies because she has always loved pretty things.
In the order note, he wrote:
“My wife has spent 52 birthdays with me.
This may be the last one I get to celebrate with her.”
Along with the cake, he asked us to write this message in the custom card:
“To my beautiful wife,
Thank you for loving me through every version of my life.
If this is our last birthday together,
just know that meeting you was still the best thing that ever happened to me.”
