The fourth day of Tihar marks the new year celebrations of Newar Communities. It is said that on this day, a newar businessman Shankha Dhar Sahwa paid all the debts on behalf of the people of Kathmandu Valley, so they started celebrating it as a new life for them. Hence, every year they started celebrating it as a new year.
This new era is called Nepal Sambat or Nhu Daya Bhintuna - meaning Happy New Year in Nepal Bhasa language.

This video is taken at Tokha. Tokha is a newar community and is a municipality in Kathmandu District in Bagmati Province of Nepal.
