On the first day of the Capacity Enhancement Training on Climate Governance, Gender Equality, and Social Inclusion (GESI), YCGN President Ms. Rita Thapa led an engaging introduction session, including a participant introduction round that helped build connection, trust, and collaboration among young leaders from diverse backgrounds.

This was followed by a PowerPoint presentation showcasing YCGN’s work over the past six months, highlighting key activities, initiatives, and youth engagement efforts in climate governance and community action.

A key highlight of the session was the launch of the Climate Governance Toolkit, an illustrated Nepali-language publication titled “युवाका लागि जलवायु शासन सम्बन्धी जानकारी” (Youth and Environment Friendly Brochure on Climate Governance), designed to raise awareness among youth on climate change in a more accessible and youth-friendly way. Participants also reflected on the toolkit and its relevance in strengthening their understanding of climate governance.

YCGN also presented a video on “जलवायु शासनमा युवाको सहभागिता” (Youth Participation in Climate Governance), amplifying youth voices and showcasing their active role in climate action and governance processes.

“Youth Building Inclusive Climate Futures”

The Capacity Enhancement Training on Climate Governance, Gender Equality, and Social Inclusion (GESI) was successfully completed on 9–10 June in Kathmandu, bringing together 30 participants, including 12 males, 17 females, and 1 LGBTQIA+ person, representing YCGN , the National Youth Council Nepal (NYC), and Jcycn.

On 9 June, participants engaged in deep learning sessions on GESI, exploring how gender equality, social inclusion, and intersectionality can be integrated into climate governance and everyday decision-making. Youth reflected on how climate action must go beyond policy and become part of our daily conversations, behaviors, and community practices.

On 10 June, participants visited the ICIMOD Living Mountain Lab, where they experienced real-world learning on climate resilience, sustainable agriculture practices, innovative climate-smart technologies, sustainable land use, and soil conservation approaches. The visit also strengthened understanding of how GESI can be integrated across all sectors to build more inclusive and resilient communities.

Throughout the program, young leaders strengthened their commitment to making climate action more inclusive, practical, and community-driven, ensuring GESI is not just a concept but a way of life in climate solutions and conversations.

As part of World Environment Day Week activities, winners of the quiz competition were also recognized with certificates and gift hampers, celebrating their knowledge, engagement, and commitment to environmental sustainability.

We extend heartfelt gratitude to all facilitators, partners, and participants for making this learning journey meaningful and impactful.

Together, we move forward with stronger voices for climate justice, inclusion, and sustainability.
