Lately I’ve been thinking about where my love for graphic design and creative projects started.

When I was 12, I discovered Thunderdome. Not just the music, but also the raw CD artworks, flyers and merchandise around hardcore culture. A few years later, Eminem and the Marshall Mathers LP had the same effect on me. I spent hours drawing my Nike Air Max shoes, Eminem’s tattoo designs, drawing on my clothing, collecting event flyers and building fan websites. At the time it was just something I loved doing, but looking back now, those moments shaped me creatively.

Now, almost 40 and nearly 20 years into working as a freelance all-round designer, I mostly create branding & merchandise for companies while also working on very different creative projects. And honestly, at the core it still feels connected to that same kid who was obsessed with music culture and visuals.

I’ve worked with interns, I keep up with new technologies, I make personal artwork alongside client projects and I love collaborating with creative people around the world. But I never really chased “growth” in the traditional business sense or the idea of building a big studio. I just genuinely love making awesome things. On my own or together with others.

Funny how certain music, artwork and cultures can quietly shape the direction of your entire life.

“MODA” Visual Identity 🌴 MODA is a new Latin American music-focused brand active across Brasil, Mexico, Colombia and beyond.

The identity captures energetic summer moods inspired by regional music culture, street aesthetics and natural forms.
Imperfect lines, palm-leaf references and a handcrafted visual language reflect the playful, expressive spirit found across Latin American environments and creative scenes.

This post highlights the logotype, mascot mark and custom typeface developed for lyric video use as part of the wider identity system.

More brand assets and visuals created for upcoming MODA video projects coming soon.

Did you know that the character ‘Frosti the Tosti’ which I created for my book, was partly inspired by ‘Frosty the Snowman’ from the classic 1969 TV special?

Who would like a brand new Pixel & Frosti book coming out in 2026? 👀

About this book from 2023: A children’s picture book about happiness (joy, contentment & fulfillment). Created with illustrator Che Filet, featuring Pixel the Pug & Frosti the Grilled Cheese Sandwich (‘Tosti’ in Dutch).

We published through crowdfunding, so no overstock. Every supporter received the book plus extras. Together we donated €1500 to Make-A-Wish Netherlands. ✨

This month marks 20 years since I started working professionally as a graphic designer.

I’m usually focused on what’s next, new ideas, but every now and then it feels good to look back. Digging into my archives, revisiting old projects, early experiments, and the making-of moments behind them.

Looking back can be just as valuable as moving forward. Sharing some of these old designs and behind-the-scenes images with you, not just for nostalgia, but in the hope they spark inspiration.

The release “Like Home” by & was the third release on Protocol Recordings.
