I finally had the chance to get back to the bedroom beam project - today I'm leaching the wood and hopefully mounting slats. After endless deliberations I went with lye - the stain I ordered made the wood look rotten, but on the other hand I didn't really want to white wash the beams. Lye was a perfect choice then - it helps to keep that natural brightness of raw untreated wood and it prevents pine/spruce wood from turning yellowish over time.
Oh, and pardon that grumpy expression, it's just really hot up there today 😅
