Cityplot’s kids team is organising a full weekend of nature activities at Reclaim the Seeds — Amsterdam’s beloved open-source seed festival — and we’d love to see your family there!
Come roll seed balls filled with wildflowers, build a cozy earwig house for the orchard, weave a bird’s nest, or join our Nature Discovery Walk (ages 4–12) led by one of our guides.
Drop in whenever you like — no registration needed.

Join Cityplot at Stadsboerderij Osdorp for the opening of the new compost corner — part of the Week of the Circular Economy. 🍎♻️

Harvest veggies for the neighbourhood kitchen, sow & plant with the garden team, ask the compost experts all your burning questions, and watch how waste becomes food for the soil — staying right in the loop where it belongs. 🪱🌿

Mission Accomplished

Greening IJmuiden, transforming a concrete square into a living corridor connecting the neighbourhood to the nearby dunes. Wild honeysuckle, holly, buckthorn... apparently the right crowd. We hadn't even finished planting when a hummingbird butterfly showed up. Technically a night moth, but flying boldly in broad daylight, drawn straight to the violets. In March! Most years they arrive in May, migrating all the way from Southern Europe and North Africa. Climate change is bringing them earlier, and some are now even overwintering in the Netherlands.

But spotting the adult is only part of the story. No host plant, no caterpillar. No caterpillar, no moth. That's why we also planted yellow bedstraw (Galium verum) as host plant. Designing for every life stage, not just the pretty moments.

This is exactly why tile flipping actions matters. One planting event can turn a concrete square into a living corridor for biodiversity. At Cityplot we love setting up community gardens and greening urban spaces. Today Cityplotter was in action as dune garden coach for IVN at Sluisplein IJmuiden.

Winter Wonderland in the City ❄️💚💙

Amsterdam covered in snow was something truly special and unforgettable.
