BREAKING: Senator Ishaku Abbo Defects to Labour Party (LP) Amid ADC Leadership Crisis
May 3, 2027
NEWS:
In a significant political development in Adamawa State, Senator Ishaku Abbo has officially announced his defection from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Labour Party (LP), citing ongoing leadership crises within the party at both national and state levels.
Abbo disclosed that the decision follows recent legal uncertainties, including a Federal High Court judgment that voided the party’s state congresses and a Supreme Court ruling that returned the leadership dispute to the lower court for further determination. He described the situation as one that has left party members in a state of uncertainty.
The former lawmaker, who leads the SIA Movement, a grassroots political structure, said he made the move alongside his supporters to better position themselves for the 2027 general elections.
“I am leaving not out of hatred for the ADC, but to pursue our political aspirations,” he stated, while appealing to members of his former party for understanding and forgiveness.
Abbo expressed appreciation to key political figures, including the Minister of Works, Senator David Nweze Umahi, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, for their support and encouragement during the transition, despite party differences.
Looking ahead, he revealed plans to collaborate with the Labour Party in the 2027 elections and hinted at unveiling his preferred presidential candidate in due course. He also urged aspiring politicians to formally register with the Labour Party in compliance with the Electoral Act 2026.
The announcement marks a new phase in Abbo’s political journey, as he positions himself and his movement for greater participation in Adamawa’s political landscape.
