Lola wasn't the target... until she overheard a conversation she was never supposed to hear.
Now she has two choices:
Speak up and risk her life...
Or stay silent and let an innocent man walk into danger.
What would you do?
THE SIDE CHICK WHO BECAME A PAWN (Part 1)
Lola had never imagined that one dinner invitation would change her life forever.
At just twenty-four, she was breathtakingly beautiful. Heads turned whenever she walked into a room. Men admired her, women envied her, and strangers often assumed she was born into wealth.
The truth was very different.
She came from a poor family, struggled to pay her rent, and worked two jobs just to survive.
Then Senator Daniel entered her life.
He was charming, generous, and one of the leading candidates in the upcoming gubernatorial election.
Within weeks, he was paying her bills, buying her expensive clothes, and moving her into a luxurious apartment.
"You deserve the best," he would always tell her.
Lola believed she had finally met a man who genuinely cared for her.
She ignored the whispers.
She ignored the headlines.
She ignored the fact that he had a wife and children.
As long as she was comfortable, she convinced herself it wasn't her business.
One rainy evening, Senator Daniel called.
"I'll be late tonight. Don't wait up."
"Okay," Lola replied.
An hour later, she realized she had left her handbag in his private office after lunch.
She decided to retrieve it herself.
The security guards recognized her and let her in without asking questions.
As she approached the office, she heard voices inside.
The door wasn't completely closed.
She was about to knock.....until she heard her own name.
"Lola is perfect," one man said.
"Prince Nelson won't suspect a thing."
Another voice laughed.
"Who would suspect a beautiful woman asking for help?"
Lola froze.
Her heartbeat quickened.
Senator Daniel spoke calmly.
"Prince Nelson has become a problem."
"Every poll shows he's the people's favorite."
"If he remains in the race, we'll lose."
Silence filled the room before another man broke it.
"We don't have to touch him."
"We just need people to believe his opponents did."
Daniel smiled.
"And that's where Lola comes in."
Lola's knees nearly gave way.
"What do you mean?" another man asked.
Daniel leaned back in his chair.
"Prince Nelson is known for helping young people."
"We'll arrange for Lola to get close to him."
"Once she earns his trust..."
"...everything else will fall into place."
"And when the attack happens," another man added, "everyone will point fingers at the rival campaign."
The room erupted in quiet laughter.
Lola covered her mouth to stop herself from gasping.
She wasn't someone's girlfriend.
She wasn't even a secret lover.
She was a pawn.
A disposable piece in a deadly political game she never knew existed.
Her handbag suddenly felt unimportant.
She slowly stepped backward, careful not to make a sound.
Just as she reached the corridor...
Her phone vibrated.
She had forgotten to put it on silent.
The ringtone echoed through the hallway.
The voices inside stopped.
The office door swung open.
Senator Daniel stepped out.
His eyes met Lola's.
For a few long seconds...
No one spoke.
Then Daniel smiled.
A slow, chilling smile.
"Lola..."
"How long have you been standing there?"
To be continued...
