BUILD YOURSELF AND BUILD OTHERS.

Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine (2 Timothy 4:2).

The Apostle Paul, writing to Timothy, said, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). Notice that he emphasizes showing yourself approved, not unto men, but unto God. This means you’re to present yourself to God as one who’s ready and trained for the work of the ministry, soul winning and discipleship.

There’re those who only study the Scriptures to preach; yes, this will benefit others because it’s the Word, but it is crucial that you consciously build yourself with the Word; allow the Word to work within you first! Merely being a conduit for the Word isn’t enough; how about your personal growth? You have to build your spirit with the Word.

Building yourself involves allowing the Word to mould and shape your character; allowing the Word to build your person and frame the way you think and live. The Word of God must determine your priorities and interests and regulate every area of your life.

In Romans 12:2, the Word shows you how to cultivate the right thoughts and experience continuous transformation: “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

By studying and meditating on the Word you establish proper priorities and align your interests with godly principles. The concluding part of our theme scripture talks about “…rightly handling and skillfully teaching] the Word of Truth" (2 Timothy 2:15 AMPC).

The Bible instructs that the servant of the Lord must be apt to teach (2 Timothy 2:24). So, most definitely, you have the responsibility to teach and build others, but it begins with you. Build and edify yourself with the Word of God, and also build and edify others.

PRAYER
Dear Father, as I build myself with your Word, I experience its transformational power in my character; my mind is renewed, and my priorities are aligned with your divine principles. Thank you for the enablement to teach and share your Word effectively with others to build their faith strong, in Jesus’ Name.

2 Timothy 2:24 AMPC And the servant of the Lord must not be quarrelsome (fighting and contending). Instead, he must be kindly to everyone and mild-tempered [preserving the bond of peace]; he must be a skilled and suitable teacher, patient and forbearing and willing to suffer wrong.

Psalms 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Dear Father, thank You for the honour You’ve placed on my life. Thank You for Your grace, Your love, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit! I never lose sight of the truth of Your Word and who You’ve made me in Christ. My words are inspiring; I’m excellent in my communication, everywhere and every time. Thank You for setting up Your Kingdom in my heart. With my heart, I envision and apprehend the realities of the Gospel and of our Kingdom-life. Thank You for the glorious life You’ve given me.

PASSIONATE ABOUT HIS MANDATE

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek (Romans 1:16).

As a teenager, I was compelled to share the message of Jesus Christ and His saving power with everyone. I would pray with a resolute heart, wailing and travailing in prayer for the sick, the afflicted, and crying out for the salvation of the lost. In my prayer times, I often thought, “How can we reach them? What more can we do?”

This burning desire led me to hit the streets, going from house to house, and from door to door, preaching the Gospel. Some people got furious and warned me never to return. But I was undeterred. I visited hospitals and schools, preaching wherever I could—in buses, taxis, and any place where people gathered.

All I wanted to do was to tell the untold about Jesus Christ and reach the unreached. Yet, it never felt enough. I sought to motivate my friends to join me in this endeavour. I would talk to them about going out to preach, and we did. Still, it felt insufficient. We organised crusades from place to place. But even then, it didn't seem enough.

The more I preached, the more I realized the immense need to reach the unreached and sn**ch many out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God’s Love-Son. The Bible says, them “…This Gospel of the Kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations, and then shall the end come” (Matthew 24:14).

Those are the words of Jesus; they were personal to me. They must be personal to you. They must be your motivation to do more for the Gospel. Be passionate about spreading the message of the Gospel, not just in your catchment but also to the regions beyond. Take the Lord’s mandate seriously: He said, “…Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15).

PRAYER
Dear Father, I’m conscious of my calling as a minister of reconciliation, stirred and inspired by the words of the Lord, and motivated by the plight of the lost. I pray that today, the eyes of many around the world who are in darkness will be open to the light of the Gospel, and they are turned from darkness to light, and into the glorious liberty of the sons of God, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
