Alright 🤍
Here’s the Islamic explanation of a solar eclipse:
In Islam, a solar eclipse (Kusuf ash-Shams) is one of the signs of Allah’s power. It does not happen because of the death or birth of any person.
Teaching of the Prophet ﷺ
When a solar eclipse happened during the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, he said:
“The sun and the moon are two signs from among the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse because of the death or life of anyone. So when you see them, pray and make du‘ā’ until it is over.”
(Bukhari & Muslim)
What Muslims should do during a solar eclipse
Pray Salat al-Kusuf (Eclipse Prayer)
Make du‘ā’ (supplication)
Seek forgiveness (Istighfar)
Give charity (Sadaqah)
Remember Allah and reflect
Salat al-Kusuf (brief)
Prayed in congregation or alone
Two rak‘ahs, each rak‘ah has:
Two long recitations
Two ruku‘ (bowings)
No adhan or iqamah is called
Key lesson
A solar eclipse reminds Muslims of:
Allah’s absolute control over the universe
The Day of Judgment
The need for repentance, humility, and remembrance
