If we break it down:
"Expect the man to build the world she wants" → means she believes it’s his job to create the life, environment, or opportunities she desires.
"Rather than create it herself" → means she doesn’t take an active role in building that life alongside him.
Here’s why that can be problematic:
1. It puts all responsibility on one person
Relationships are ideally partnerships. If one person carries the entire burden of building a shared dream, it can create imbalance and resentment.
2. It can lead to unrealistic expectations
If the “world she wants” is big, personal, or very specific, it may be unfair to expect someone else to create it exactly as she imagines. People have their own goals, limitations, and dreams.
3. It reduces personal growth
Creating your own life gives you skills, confidence, and independence. Relying on someone else to do it for you can limit that growth and leave you vulnerable if they can’t (or won’t) deliver.
4. It shifts the relationship from partnership to dependency
There’s a difference between supporting each other and one person carrying the entire vision. Healthy relationships are built when both people contribute—financially, emotionally, and through effort.
In short: It’s not “wrong” to want support from a partner, but it becomes unhealthy when someone expects another person to single-handedly create their ideal life. The better approach is co-creation—both people working together to build the world they want to share.
