I Looked Strong, But I Was Tired

People often tell me, “You’re so strong.”
They say it like it’s a compliment.

What they don’t know is that strength found me because weakness was never allowed.

I grew up learning how to smile quickly and cry quietly. In public, I laughed. At home, I carried thoughts that felt heavier than my own body. I mastered the art of saying “I’m fine” even when everything inside me was falling apart.

There were nights NEPA took light, and the darkness felt louder than the generator outside. I would sit by the window, listening to distant voices, wondering how life kept moving while I felt stuck.

I didn’t want much.
Just to be understood.
Just to rest without guilt.
Just to breathe without pretending.

One night, I finally cried,not because I was weak, but because I was tired of being strong for everyone except myself.

That was the night I realized something important:
Strength is not silence.
Healing begins the moment you tell yourself the truth.

I am still healing.
Still learning.
Still here.
