Partakers Of The Divine Nature
As new creation citizens, we have a remarkable gift - the gift of partaking in the divine nature. This profound truth is rooted in the scriptures and has inspiring attributes.
In his second Epistle, the Apostle Peter highlights the believer's position as partakers of the divine nature, emphasizing the exceeding great and precious promises that have been fulfilled and given to us.
2 Peter 1:4
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
The phrase "divine nature" refers to the nature of God, which is holy, righteous, and pure. As believers, we are called to partake of this nature, to become like God, and to reflect His character in our lives. This is not a physical transformation but a spiritual one, where we are transformed by the power of God and become partakers of His divine nature.
1 John 3:9
Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin: for his seed remaineth in him, and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
The word "seed" in this verse is translated from the Greek word "sperma," which means "seed" or "nature." This refers to the divine nature that is implanted in us when we are born of God, enabling us to live a life that is pleasing to Him.
As believers, we have been given the power to escape the defiling influences of the world, which can lead us astray from God's path. Through Christ, we are delivered from the dominating power of sin and the world's corrupting values, enabling us to live a life that is pleasing to God.
As partakers of the divine nature, we have been given a new identity and a new nature that reflects God's character, by the person of the Holy Spirit Who dwells in every child of God. This means that our natural tendency is to do things the way Jesus would do them, to reflect His love, compassion, and righteousness in our lives.
