Aspirants Who Stepped Down for Incumbent Will Be Rewarded — Gov. Bago

The Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has assured aspirants who stepped down for the incumbent member representing Bida/Gbako/Katcha Federal Constituency that they would not regret their decision.

The assurance came during a stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress held at the Government House, Minna, where Saidu Musa Abdullahi was adopted as the consensus candidate for the House of Representatives seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Governor Bago appealed to party stakeholders to support the incumbent lawmaker for another term, noting that the arrangement would allow the seat to rotate to Gbako and later Katcha in line with the understanding among stakeholders.

According to the governor, retaining the incumbent would enhance the constituency’s chances of attracting more democratic dividends and sustaining ongoing representation efforts.

He also disclosed that consultations were still ongoing to produce additional consensus candidates ahead of the party primaries scheduled to commence on May 16, 2026.

The aspirants who agreed to step down for the consensus arrangement include Isah Yahaya, Abubakar Baba Chegungi, Mohammed Yakubu Esheti, and Abdulsalam Madaki.

Some of the aspirants, while speaking with journalists after the meeting, said their decision was informed by respect for the governor, party stakeholders, and the need to promote unity and peace within the party. They also pledged their support for the success of the consensus candidate in the forthcoming elections.
