Why average position in Google Search Console is extremely misleading!

When you think of how an average should in the traditional sense you're taking the total number of figures or things and then divided by them to get the total amount.

But, if you're looking at average position, especially per page in GSC this is not what they do.

For each query where the page appears, Google tracks the highest position it had in the search result.
It then takes all the recorded positions for that page and calculates the average.

So, what you end up with is not a "true weighted average", but a Uhweighted Average.
If youre someone that fixates on average position in GSC, please don't.

Especialy when a page starts to rank for more queries the avg position will alsolikely drop as youre ranking for more keywords, but where they show up in Google may not be as high at first.
I'm not writing this off completely, but it would be great if Google maybe had this on the actual data somewhere rather than solely the documentation.
