John Mahama Calls for a True Pan-African Economy

At the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama urged African leaders to reduce reliance on foreign currencies and fast-track a Pan-African payment system.

He argued that trading in local currencies is key to strengthening the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), boosting intra-African trade, and advancing true economic sovereignty.

Africa must build a financial system that serves its own interests.
